GENERAL/BUSINESS AVIATION President Obama’s administration was not very welcoming of business aviation. Does anyone remember when the executives of the car manufacturers were castigated for taking business jets to Washington D.C.? This is one area where Trump may represent a welcome change in attitude due to his corporate business aviation fleet. In fact, the business aviation
industry is hopeful that lowered and simplified tax policy will be a positive.
One looming loss may be if
the ATC privatization movement continues, as the airlines have already lobbied to increase the costs to general aviation (and the airline industry has one of the stronger lobbies on Capitol Hill). This will come to froth as Trump’s stated goals of private-public partnerships may use this initiative as a poster child for this campaign promise and allow the major airlines to control a spinned- off ATC, despite many studies that do not show many advantages of moving forward with this idea. But then again, Trump himself
is proponent of business aviation, with his Boeing 757 being used extensively during the election.
