The new look, three-day World Travel Market London 2016 at ExCeL, London was the most successful ever with a joint-record attendance of 51,500 and the highest number of exhibitor invitees and buyers attending in the event’s 37-year history.

Tumblr, forums, news sites, blogs, YouTube and Instagram during the course of the three-day show has revealed, the most talked-about destinations and topics, following research by PR specialist Bell Pottinger. India gained online traction


after being named one of the hot spots for 2017 and second most talked about destinations in the world. At this year’s WTM London, Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State (Independent charge) for Tourism and for Culture opened the event alongside Simon Press, Senior Exhibition Director, WTM London and Shri Vinod Zutshi, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism. The opening of WTM London was followed by the inauguration of the Incredible India Pavilion, which represents the theme of India-The Land of Eternal Heritage. The pavilion was greatly appreciated by the Minister and visiting dignitaries. At


the opening of the pavilion, classical dance performances followed by yoga demonstrations. The Minister also launched a website for a new Incredible India Global Tourism Mart in New Delhi next February. Shri Vinod Zutshi, Secretary, Tourism


delivered a media briefing about various strategies being explored by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India to promote tourism in source markets and with particular reference to the European market. He also briefed the gathering on the Government’s focus areas such as infrastructure development, promotion of niche areas, such as medical, etc.


VISITOR FIGURES CONFIRM A BEST EVER WTM LONDON The new-look three-day event with extended opening hours from 10am–7pm was phenomenally well received by the global travel industry with 51,444 senior industry executives in attendance – a 4% increase on last year, reveals unaudited figures. The increase takes total participant numbers back to the level of 2014 – a record for the event which
