KEY HIGHLIGHTS
l The exhibition closed with the news that World Travel Market London 2016 was the most successful ever with a joint-record attendance of 51,500 and the highest number of exhibitor invitees and buyers in the event’s 37 year history.
l More than 865,500 on-stand connections took place over the three days leading to more than £2.5 billion in industry deals being negotiated and signed.
l The UNWTO & WTM Ministers’ Summit called on the industry and governments to work together to help destinations cope with the threat of terrorism, which UNWTO Secretary-General Dr Taleb Rifai described as “forces of darkness”.
l At a dedicated Speed Networking event, 100 bloggers from 15 countries talked to exhibitors interested in using this increasingly important channel.
l Delegates at the Skift Summit heard speakers from across the sector offer their views on subjects ranging from the continued threat of Airbnb to what hotels could learn from the food and beverage industry.
OTHER EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
l Spafinder Wellness announced the global winners of the 2016 Wellness Travel Awards. Winners included: Rancho La Puerta, Mexico, SHA Wellness Clinic, Spain and Thailand’s Kamalaya Wellness Sanctuary & Holistic Spa.
l Visit Finland took home the prize at the ‘Best of Social Media 2016’ session for their 100 Days of Polar Night Magic campaign.
l WTM London Premier Partner Incredible India put on a stunning display as part of the Festivals programme which brought the show to a close. The ‘Vibrant India’ themed festival, showcased India’s cultural flair, with music, dancing and traditional cuisine.
