KEY HIGHLIGHTS


● Finnair – which is 56% government-owned – plans to double the number of fl ights to Asia in the next year. Chief executive Pekka Vauramo said the carrier will use its geographical advantage to expand services to Asia.


● Delegates at the Wellness Travel Symposium heard from several destinations about the importance of partnerships between the public and private sectors when developing wellness tourism. Case studies included India, “the land of yoga”, and Iceland’s Blue Lagoon.


● Attendees at the Women in Travel Meetup urged travel fi rms to consider the needs of women aged over 50 in their marketing and recruitment strategies. Rachel O’Reilly, Kuoni UK head of communications, told the session: “Over-50s are very different to what they were a few decades ago; they’re very cool people and we need to think about them differently.”


● Lemon Tree Hotels, India and Tren Ecuador were announced as the joint-overall winners of the 2016 World Responsible Tourism Awards.


● Futurist Brian Solis told the audience that Generation C – the ‘connected generation’ – are narcicists “because every tap is teaching them they are the most important person in the world”.


OTHER EVENT HIGHLIGHTS


● A demonstration of virtual reality on the PROMPERÙ stand allowed visitors to experience some of Peru’s iconic attractions, including Machu Picchu, via new virtual reality technology.


● The stand out stands at this year’s World Travel Market London, 2016 were announced, with Flanders, Egypt and Kerala among the winners.
