The World Travel Leaders Awards give WTM London’s Official Media Partners a platform to congratulate and recognise those companies and individuals that have made significant and ground-breaking contributions to travel and tourism in their region.

WINNER: DESTINATION CANADA NOMINATED BY: CANADIAN TRAVEL PRESS
JUDGES’ COMMENTS: Canada’s national tourism marketing organisation, Destination Canada is establishing new directions and priorities for raising the international tourism profile of Canada.
This mission took a big step in the spring of 2016, with the launch of the ‘Connecting America’ marketing campaign. Over the next three years, Destination Canada will use research- driven marketing methods to create new advertising and engaging social media content for the US market. The judges said: “New leadership has taken the profile of international tourism in Canada to another level.”
WINNER: GRIMALDI LINES NOMINATED BY: L’AGENZIA DI VIAGGI
JUDGES’ COMMENTS: Italian ferry operator Grimaldi Lines opened two new routes: from Sardinia to Livorno-Olbia, and Civitavecchia to Olbia. These new services will boost transportation of goods, passengers

than alternative routes by road. The judges said: “Grimaldi is helping to develop regions such as Sardinia and Sicily. With the opening of new routes, it is significantly helping the connectivity of inbound tourism.”
WINNER: SPICEJET AIRLINES NOMINATED BY: TRAV TALK INDIA JUDGES’ COMMENTS: A new investor took control of Spicejet Airlines in January 2015, and his vision and innovative leadership have turned around a loss-making listed company into a profitable one. Every quarter of the financial year from April 2015 to March 2016 has been profitable – unlike the previous four years in the red. The judges acknowledged the remarkable recovery and said: “SpiceJet has turned the company around by focusing on content not just an image.”
WINNER: LOGITRAVEL NOMINATED BY: HOSTELTUR – SPAIN
JUDGES’ COMMENTS: Logitravel has shifted its focus from being purely
an OTA. It now works in product creation, developing packages from the information requested online, working with ‘big data’. It customises the user experience and offers the most appropriate products based on the users’ activity on the website and information about other products. The judges said: “Diversification and an innovative approach has been key to their success.
“A philosophy of ‘it is far better to do a few things very well than drown in a maelstrom of data and process’ is serving them well.”
WINNER: SERRA VERDO EXPRESS NOMINATED BY: MERCADO & EVENTOS – BRAZIL JUDGES’ COMMENTS: The tourist trains operated by Serra Verde Express, in Parana, have an increasingly significant impact on the state’s tourism. The company transports about 200,000 passengers per year, providing a boost to the local economy and directly employing more than 120 members of staff.
