Women in Travel Meet-Up

For the second year running Alessandra Alonso, Chief Mentor and Strategic Consultant at Everyday Mentor and lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire’s Business School, hosted the Women in Travel Meet-Up programme at WTM London. The day of mentoring, debates

and presentations, which included two panel discussions with leading corporate women and entrepreneurs, a keynote speaker, mentoring sessions and a networking reception, was highly successful with many attendees saying how wonderful it was to have the opportunity to come together, share, learn and network. Key points from the two debates ‘Not for the Faint Hearted’ and ‘4G Leadership’ that can be implemented in a business situation are that resilience can be learnt and also nurtured through strong relationships as well as being strengthened through helpful routines. Finding a little time for ourselves in our busy life is critical to maintain a work/ life balance.

All the speakers stressed the importance of networking and mixing with other like- minded professionals and entrepreneurs on a regular basis. Mentoring, networking and role models were identified as very important tools for business women. ‘The more women there are in leadership roles, the more inspirational role models there will be,’ said Julia Lo Bue, MD of the Advantage Travel Partnership. “Women leaders

must identify young women and support them through their

career journey.”

Alonso said: “It was a privilege to have such a high-calibre group of professionals committing their time to

join the event and also to provide one- to-one mentoring support. Thanks must go to traveller and filmmaker Jacki Hill- Murphy, who gave the keynote speech, along with all the other inspirational panellists who joined the debates.”

“I am delighted that so many dynamic and inspiring women agreed to give up their time to share their expertise. Women in the travel industry who attended gained motivating advice and practical tips to develop their own businesses and career paths and we are delighted with the positive feedback received.”
