Organised and sponsored by the World Food Travel Association (WFTA), this year’s WTM London seminar programme, hosted by executive director Erik Wolf, featured two sessions: ‘Food and Drink Travel: The Hidden Harvest’ and ‘New Trends in Food and Drink Travel’. Both sessions introduced delegates to the food tourism industry and its benefits, as well as the demographics and psychographics of food travellers. With consumer interest in food and drink at an all-time high, attendees learnt how to utilise these trends for a business or destination. “We were delighted to have the opportunity to bring food travel education to WTM London. Food and drink have become a critical focus for most travellers and there is a lot that businesses and destinations everywhere can be doing to leverage food and drink as tools for economic development. Food and drink should be the foundation of all tourism development,” concluded Wolf.
Airline Industry Panel
For our first look at the aviation sector at WTM London this year, moderator John Strickland, of JLS Consulting, was joined by panelists to discuss the Global Passenger Survey that was launched by Ink in 2014. With over 110,000 respondents, the airline passenger satisfaction web survey was conducted in partnership with 40 airlines and independently analysed by VOAC. Speakers including Kevin Miller,
Director of Research, Ink, Rafael Schvartzman, Regional VP Europe IATA, Nat Pieper, Svp -Europe, Middle East and Africa, Delta, and Helgi Mar Bjorgvinsson, Senior Vice President Marketing & Sales Icelandair, discussed what the findings mean to the industry and what airlines are doing to compete for loyal and satisfied customers. They looked specifically at the challenges and opportunities that airlines are facing this year and offered insightful accounts of their own experiences. Watch the video here
