until recently by Sun International and acquired 100 percent by the Minor Group and renamed Avani Windhoek Hotel and Casino. Tis casino is also located in Windhoek and there are 130 slots and 10 table games. Meanwhile a new casino, Plaza Casino,


opened at the Hilton Hotel in Windhoek, Namibia in June 2016. Te hotel is operated by Protea under its luxury brand African Pride but fully owned by a subsidiary of the United Africa Group. Te Hilton received a casino licence in 2012


and the casino has 140 slots which includes 70 IGT gaming machines, 10 3D gaming machines and 60 Atronic slots, plus there are seven table games including one Raise ‘em Poker, three Blackjack and three American roulette. Tere is also a private salon with one Blackjack, one American Roulette and seven slots. Tis casino currently offers the first 3D slot


machines available in Namibia. Te casino also intends to run Plaza Casino Club One a rewards


programme for its casino players. Te United Africa Group also operates the


recently opened Eldorado Casino (slot hall) located at the Protea Hotel Ondangwa (Cresta Lodge) which offers 30 slots including multi games. Te Protea Hotel Ondangwa offers 90 rooms, bars, restaurants and conference centre UAG’s subsidiary Out of Africa Hospitality is


also opening a mid market Hilton Garden Inn Hotel adjacent to the existing Hilton Hotel. Te 180 guest room hotel will be open in 2017 and form part of the Freedom Plaza development bringing additional meeting space across the two properties. United Africa Group was set up in 1992 and


has various business interests from real estate to hospitality. Today it is a US$110m business. It has invested over N$450m in the hospitality sector and now has 11 hotels with 530 rooms in the region. Aside from the 150 key Hilton which was


developed by UAG and opened in May 2011 other group hotels are operated through the Protea brand which UAG has exclusive rights for in Namibia, Angola and Ethiopia. In addition, the Safari Court Hotel casino in


Windhoek is a four star hotel offering 215 rooms plus Namibia’s largest conference centre, which can accommodate up to 2,400 participants. Tis has the sixth licence for casino operations.
