Bill was drafted in 2008 to replace the 1994 act which lacked proper control and regulations. Tis bill is expected to finally come into force this year and it makes provisions for more type licences including those for totalisator and bookmaking. Te Bill also aims to increase the gambling
age from 18 to 21 and introduce tougher and stricter penalties to protect the young and gamblers. Provision is also made to register gambling addicts so families can apply to have them barred from casinos and slot halls.
