l Gross proceeds of the NL to be applied for and must not exceed 50 percent for the provision of prizes and 30 percent for the admin and operating expenses.


l Benevolent lotteries are permitted if for social welfare or charitable purposes, sport or cultural activities or similar organisations.


l Unauthorised lotteries are subject to fines of up to N$50,000 or up to one year imprisonment.


SPORTS BETTING Although not as popular as gambling on casinos


there are a handful of bookmakers operating namely Premier Sports Trading, Betting World and Tabonline. Premier Sports Trading CC is a new


bookmaker in Namibia enabling betting on local


and international sports gaming from football to tennis. Te company is comprised of two bookmakers with 50 years experience between them. Bets can be made via their bookmaker shop


or via their website pstbet.com or mobile betting. Te website includes live betting as well as the shop selection. PST take more than 4,000 bets per week and


offer football betting on over 100 leagues plus tennis, motor racing, baseball, motorbike racing, basketball, American football and golf plus any other events such as the Oscars or Miss World. Te company opened back in late 2014 and


although currently only active in Namibia is now looking at other southern African countries. Co-Founder of PST Steve Hamunyela said:


“Sports betting is not as popular as casino gambling in Namibia but our punters are increasing in numbers every week so it will take us time for people to fully understand the betting industry. Shortly we will be adding casino to our operation. “Changes are in process in terms of legislation


and this will create direct and indirect jobs and also will boost government revenue. Many are not aware of the betting industry yet as this has been done only to white minority. We are planning to reach as many in Namibia as possible.” Tabonline is a tote betting site of South


African horseracing with two shops in Namibia and the ability to bet online via their website. Betting World is a horse racing and sports


betting site run out of South Africa offering bets on all sports from football to rugby to cycling and cricket in the southern African regions. Betting World is a wholly owned subsidiary of


Phumela Gaming and Leisure Ltd which is the horseracing and tote betting operator in seven of South Africa’s nine provinces. Many foreign sports betting sites also accept


wagers from Namibian players. Sports betting will be considered under the totalisator licence under the new Bill.


ONLINE Tis is not regulated in Namibia and is
