BRINGING THE LATEST NEWS FROM AROUND THE GLOBE
SMSI Conference and SENSOR+TEST 2020 join together to create a very special symbiosis
The success story of scientifi c conferences in the area of sensor and measuring technology in conjunction with the SENSOR+TEST goes back over thirty years. From the 22 to the 25 of June, 2020, the next step is being taken with the SMSI 2020 – Sensor and Measurement Science International. Researchers, developers, and specialists from all over the world especially appreciate the symbiosis with the parallel trade fair at which they can continue the innovation dialogue.
The worldwide leading forum for sensor, measuring, and testing technology, SENSOR+TEST has been accompanied for many years by diverse, fi rst-rate conferences. Examples are the AMA Conferences SENSOR and IRS2, the Fachtagung Sensoren und Messsysteme-, as well as the ettc, the European Test and Telemetry Conference. Besides the exciting talks on research and development, what the many participants appreciate is the proximity to the parallel trade fair. This is where they can see and experience important novelties and developments at live demonstrations, have an innovation dialog with the experts, and initiate new partnerships.
2020 is a very special year for the SENSOR+TEST (23 – 25 June
2020), as it is accompanied by a new fi rst-rate congress: the SMSI, the Sensor and Measurement Science International Conference.
It celebrates its premiere on the day before the fair (22 June 2020), commencing with tutorials, the opening ceremony with the presentation of the AMA Innovation Award, and the initial networking of the participants. Subsequently (23 – 25 June 2020) there will be three blocks of topics: “Sensors and Instrumentation”, “Measurement Science”, “System of Units, and Metrological Infrastructure”.
The new format packs quite a punch: It links national and international representatives from research, science, industry, and governmental institutions. The SMSI Conference provides a platform for the exchange of the latest research results. Suppliers and users can obtain well-founded insights which they can subsequently discuss at the SENSOR+TEST only a few steps away in Halls 1, 2, and 3C with exhibitors.
“With the SMSI Conference, SENSOR+TEST event will not only continue its success alongside its conferences, together with partners from industry and science as well as national and international

measurement institutes, it will rise to one of the world’s most scientifi c and leading events,” according to Prof. Dr. Gerald Gerlach, chairman of the Conference Committee.

FLIR Systems and Providence Photonics, LLC have announced that FLIR has made a strategic investment in Providence Photonics, developers of advanced software used to quantify invisible gas emissions using FLIR Optical Gas Imaging (OGI) cameras.
Providence Photonics specialises in the development and utilisation of advanced technology in the fi eld of optical gas imaging while tackling some of the industry’s most challenging environmental and safety problems. Using patented technology, advanced computer vision techniques, and state-of-the-art infrared imagers, they create solutions for several applications, including leak quantifi cation, leak survey validation, autonomous remote leak detection, and fl are combustion effi ciency monitoring.
As part of the strategic investment, FLIR will gain exclusive access to certain elements of Providence Photonics’ intellectual property, while helping to expand FLIR Systems’ set of offerings to its oil and gas industry customers. The companies will work to deploy Providence Photonics’ quantifi cation algorithms in current and future FLIR OGI cameras and digital services.
“Our investment in Providence Photonics represents another example of our evolution from solely being a leading sensor company to one that adds decision support to create intelligent sensing solutions,” said Frank Pennisi, President of the Industrial Business Unit at FLIR. “This investment enables to us to better serve our existing oil and gas industry customers who rely on our optical gas imaging technology to improve effi ciency and safety, while ensuring compliance with methane mitigation regulations.”

accelerating its international development strategy. Founded in 1982, KTICC employs 57 people and has a turnover of 5.3 million euros. KTICC is accredited by the Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme and has developed expertise in fi bre optics, electrical (DC/LF/RF), gas detection, dimensional and temperature. IPAC Solutions fi rst opened its doors in 1988, they now employ 41 people at 3 sites in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and has a turnover of 6.1 million euros. IPAC Solutions services clients from the food and life sciences industries and its main technical expertise is in temperature, humidity, pressure and fl ow, most of which is carried out on-site. This latest acquisition is complementarity with ACS, the fi rst acquisition made by Trescal in Australia in 2019 and further strengthens their single-source offering for the Australian market. The acquisition
of IAM, who were founded in 1997 and located in Manaus, strengthens Trescal’s presence in the Amazonas State following the acquisition of Setting in June last year. IAM employs 16 people, has a turnover of 0.5 million euros and provides in-house and on-site metrology services in seven accredited parameters.
Physical Digital were founded in England in 2005 and specialises in 3D contactless measurement for the automotive, energy and aerospace sectors. They are the fi rst company in the world to be accredited by NADCAP, a project in collaboration with the United States for quality assurance in the aerospace and defence sectors. The company employs 12 people and has a turnover of 1.2 million euros.
