New, convenient peristaltic pump accessory
Accurate fl ow measurement of corrosive fl uids
Titan Enterprises reports how its Metrafl ow ultrasonic fl owmeter has been selected by a leading fl uid metering and water treatment company to accurately measure chemical disinfection dosing using sodium hypochlorite.
Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) is a highly corrosive liquid commonly used as an oxidising and bleaching agent and as a disinfectant. These properties challenge component parts used in most fl owmeters.
Neil Hannay, senior development engineer at Titan Enterprises commented “Our customer chose the Metrafl ow because its clean bore design is based upon a chemically resistant Perfl uoralkoxy Alkane (PFA) tube onto which are mounted high sensitivity ultrasonic sensors. The excellent chemical stability of the single PFA fl ow tube, coupled with the lack of any connections or seals within the fl owmeter itself, enable prolonged accurate fl ow measurement of corrosive fl uids”.
The Metrafl ow ultrasonic fl owmeter was designed for customers tasked with applications that pose fl uid compatibility challenges. Using patented ultrasonic technology, the MetraFlow is able to reliably operate with excellent accuracy across fl ow ranges from 20 to 5000 ml/min, having excellent turndown of 50:1; repeatability (+/– 0.1%); linearity and a reading accuracy of better than +/– 0.5% full scale.
Solinst Canada Ltd. has introduced a new accessory for the 410 Peristaltic Pump that makes it even more convenient for sampling shallow groundwater, surface water, and soil gas in the fi eld.
The 410 Peristaltic Pump uses a 12V DC power source to operate. The new 12Vbattery holder connects to the pump so a user-supplied 12V battery becomes an integral part of the assembly. This makes the pump ideal for shorter duration sampling applications that require more portability.
The 12V battery holder is ergonomically designed requiring no tools to connect. It fi ts all versions of the peristaltic pump. The holder features a handle that keeps the pump balanced even with the added battery.
The entire 410 Peristaltic Pump design was recently updated to make it more durable and user-friendly. It features a clear pump head that allows quick inspection of the pump tubing before and during operation. It is easy to remove for faster cleaning or tubing replacement. The fuse was eliminated and replaced with an easy- to-reset breaker switch no fuse replacements ever required.
Made for the fi eld, the peristaltic pump is robust, lightweight, and simple to operate using one control that enables reversible fl ow and various speeds. It offers high or low-fl ow sampling with rates from 40 ml/min to 3.2 L/min. It is effective to depths up to the suction lift limit, which can be as much as 10 m or 33 ft. at sea level.

KROHNE has launched their new H250 M40 variable area fl owmeter, now available with extensive options for low fl ow measurement. The fl owmeter’s existing DK32, DK34 and DK37/M8M purgemeters are now rated as SIL2 compliant.
The new H250 M40 low fl ow option features an extensive range of process connections, communication options and Ex-approvals and now offers the DK37 purgemeter’s small measuring cones. The new option is suitable for liquid fl ows starting at 0.16 liters per hour / 0.04 gallons per hour and gas fl ows starting at 1.6 l/h / 0.06 standard cubic feet per hour (SCFH).
Formerly rated SIL1, the DK32, DK34 and DK37/M8M purgemeters have been re-assessed as SIL2 compliant according to IEC 61508-2:2010 for both NAMUR safety switches and NAMUR standard switches. Optional mechanical fl ow controllers or fl ange adapters are included in the SIL compliance. The SIL declarations of conformity and SIL safety manuals are available in the download center on the KROHNE website.
