16 WATER / WASTEWATER Intelligent oil in water sensor
The BlueTrace Oil in Water Sensor, from GO Systemelektronik GmbH, is a compact probe that works on basis of the fluorometric measurement principle and is capable of measuring BTEX, PAH and refined oils in water. With the capability to calibrate the sensor for the measurement of different fluorescent sources the typical measurement ranges fall between 0 - 30 up to 0 - 300 ppm. Suitable application areas include environmental monitoring such as surface waters and process monitoring for example for the detection of leakages.
The BlueTrace sensor features a digital Modbus RTU interface, this means that the sensor can not only be connected to a GO Systemelektronik controller, but can also be integrated into third-party controllers or PLCs. For this purpose, the necessary Modbus protocol is freely available. Settings and calibrations are stored
directly on the sensor and can easily be adapted via a PC program.
With a housing made out of stainless-steel or titanium and the capability to withstand up to 6 bars the BlueTrace is perfectly suited for harsh environmental conditions. Installation options include the use as either as a submersible probe or the integration into a pipeline via one of the available flow assemblies.

Reverse osmosis system offers unexpected benefits to automotive components specialists
Gestamp, a leading designer, developer and manufacturer of metal automotive components, is benefitting from significant environmental and process improvements following a decision to invest in reverse osmosis (RO) technology for its low conductivity process water generation requirements.

As part of its vision to promote sustainable economic and social development, Gestamp was primarily looking for a cleaner and cost-effective water treatment process to replace an ageing chemically activated ion exchange system.

Gestamp contacted filtration specialists Axium Process to discuss the suitability of Reverse Osmosis for the application and after comparing the benefits of the technology against the ion exchange process, made the decision to proceed with an Axium standard reverse osmosis system. Equipment reliability, short delivery time, technical support and service backup were considered important elements in the scope of supply.
“We chose an Axium RO system because the technology is safer to operate, eliminates bulk chemical and disposal costs and does not present a toxic pollution hazard to the environment. After using the plant for a number of months we are happy to report unexpected benefits such as enhanced paint finish resulting from improved water quality, as well as less downtime because the system requires minimal maintenance and has been programmed to self-clean” reports Simon White, Gestamp’s plant technician.
Designed for ease of operation and low maintenance, Axium’s standard RO systems primarily remove salts and particulates from a variety of water sources providing a reliable, stable source of high-quality water that can be used for many industrial and process applications. The systems are supplied as standard with high rejection low energy membranes, multiple sample points, conductivity monitor, level sensors, feed pressure switch and an inverter controlled pump.

Cheat the everyday problems in water analysis with system solutions
High expenditure of time, many different sources of supply, complicated workflow paths and high costs: This is the daily routine for many who are involved in routine water analysis. Here and especially for spectral analysis, however, there are system solutions that are economical in many ways –– and not just for the bank balance.
The XD series of spectrophotometers from Lovibond® lead in a new era.
The UV and UV/VIS devices are a gain for every user in many respects. No matter whether they are used for disinfectant control, waste water and raw water treatment, drinking water treatment, the analysis of boiler and cooling water or for pool water control and swimming pool water treatment: Water analysis has never been easier with the XD 7000 and XD 7500.
Everything the user needs comes from a single source including the low-cost, barcoded cell test. Anyone can select the correct test method directly from the instrument. Using the external barcode scanner, the suitable analysis method can also be selected on reagent packaging, in the Lovibond®
Handbook of Methods or with specifically requested barcoded templates for your own
SOPs. The instruments automatically recognise the most common cuvettes in the most common sizes, report the use of an incorrect cuvette or adjust the measuring range. This makes annoying detours and time-consuming extra work processes a thing of the past.
The instruments of the XD series also offer support for analytical quality assurance. User-defined calibration, password control and automatic logging are just some of the options. In addition the instruments provide simple user guidance and global usability thanks to multilingualism on all important levels. Additionally, the Lovibond®
Handbook of Methods offers valuable support for
many analytical questions and applications. Countless technical details such as the UV and UV/VIS optics or the light sources via tungsten halogen or xenon flash lamps turn the spectrophotometers into premium instruments as an economical system solution.
