Local Electrician Apprentice Of The Year
Robert Best from Broadstone has been named JTL National Apprentice of the Year.
Robert has won the top annual award from national training provider, JTL. He was named ‘National Apprentice of the Year’ at a ceremony held in March at the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) in London’s Savoy Place.
JTL – a not-for-profi t organisation, which specialises in delivering electrical and plumbing apprenticeships – has trained 35,000 apprentices to date. Robert was selected for the 2017 national award from the 6,500 apprentices currently on apprenticeship programmes with JTL.

Commenting on his win, Robert said: “It’s such a great privilege – I really wasn’t expecting to win so it was a genuine surprise to see my name on that screen. Becoming a qualifi ed electrician made all my hard work worthwhile, but winning this award takes it to another level. I’m so happy!”
Dad, Graham Best, added: “Robert’s apprenticeship has equipped him with some great skills, but it’s also been invaluable training for life.

Robert, 22, currently works for Powerpoint Electrical Contractors in Wimborne, but hopes to start his own company before he reaches 30. Meanwhile, he’s keeping busy playing 1st XV rugby for Salisbury Rugby Club and renovating the house he recently purchased with long-term girlfriend, Louise Birchall.
