WHAT A YEAR IT’S BEEN! The on both season
started with our Easter Foursomes and competitions
Saturday and
Monday. Easter eggs as prizes were the major reason why this event proved so popular! The Saturday competition was won by Joyce Tuomey and Val Howell and the Monday competition by Laura and Helen Heggarty. In April we hosted the Presidents Day
of the British Golf Collectors’ Society and I was invited to welcome everyone at the dinner. It was a most interesting and enjoyable
occasion and a great
privilege to have been their guest. I learnt a lot about cleeks and niblicks and even bought a memento of Bobby Jones in the auction. Eight Ladies travelled to Lahinch at the end of April for our annual fixture, and in May Jeanne Bell, Emily McBurney and Maureen Richmond were selected for Cheshire. You can find out more about how they got on in these and other outings in these very pages! The year continued happily with wins
against the Village Play and the Skylarks. Our Invitation was a great success having a shot gun start for the first time and two halfway houses. It proved to be a very enjoyable day in spite of the early start for some visitors. Congratulations to Jeanne Bell who
won the Club Championship - a well deserved victory. Gill Ward was the runner-up. I had a wonderful Captains day out

at Ormskirk, a Club with many happy memories for me. I was introduced to golf there and both my father and mother were Captains.
It was a
Ormskirk staff and their welcome was much appreciated by all. Our teams continued to play league
matches throughout the summer. The C team reached the West Cheshire Finals but lost to a strong Delamere team. Our scratch team won the Liz Wilson Shield soundly beating Tytherington in the final. In September it was Nairn’s turn to the Women’s
host International Team
Challenge tournament and six of us flew up to Inverness to compete. Discover what happened in the report by Brenda Cross that follows. The Captain and myself played together
in the Men’s Invitation to the Ladies. We had had a little practice together in June at the ‘puds do’ and formed a formidable partnership winning the coveted Briggs barometers. In October we reached the Millennium
final at Formby ladies - there’s a report coming up. The introduction of the Blue Course
was an excellent innovation. I hope we can continue to make use of this facility which encourages beginners and allows more mature members to continue to play competitive golf. Captains Prize day saw both
an eighteen hole stableford and a Blue
Course competition. My main, but highly important, contribution was to run the half way house and dispense a few well chosen words of encouragement. The Prize was won by Dinah Marshall and runner up was Pam Harris. There were prizes, too, for the front and back nine and one for the Seven Hole Blue Course. This was followed by my favourite meal - an excellent afternoon tea. This year our elder members were
blisteringly
hot day and the course was in great condition. We were treated royally by the

invited to the Seniors Lunch which was a most enjoyable occasion. Ladies who had been members of RLGC for over fifty years were presented with a scarf and the gentlemen a tie. It was an honour
