Imagine two posts alongside your right and left legs. I refer to this as ‘the gate’ in which the lower body must stay throughout the swing. Let’s look at how we sequence the downswing.
The correct order of ‘things’
From face on I’ve made a full shoulder turn which presents my back to the target and my weight has transferred to the inside of my right side. My legs and feet are quiet. Down the line the shaft is parallel to the target line with little evidence of space between my knees - a sign of quiet legs.
You need to transfer but stay inside the gate. If you compare my position now to the top of my backswing you will see that I have clearly loaded my left foot but I have stayed within the gate posts. Doing this allows my arms to move down and my club is now in an ideal delivery position with the glove opposite the right thigh, the wrists fully cocked and the shaft parallel to the target line.
