Fun line-up for Newport Hall
GET on your skanking shoes and
prepare for a night of reggae, ska and electronic at Newport Memorial Hall next week. Moksi, a brand new reggae band
from Pembrokeshire, headline the night next Friday (Feb 3) with support from The Chalk Outlines and Timbali. The headliners recently formed,
playing a range of reggae, dub, soul and funk covers. Performing with them will be
West Wales’ much-adored The Chalk Outlines, featuring ex-members of Beneath the Reef, The Rude ‘em Outs and The Dapper Cadavers. Their debut EP has already been
labelled ‘full of fantastic fast-paced two-tone ska, twisted by Balkan, Latin and hip-hop influences’ by legendary Skazine and Independent Label Do the Do Music. Formed in 2015, the 18-legged ska
band have been whipping audiences into a frenzy across their native Wales,
the south-west and London with their stomping live shows. The band are currently recording
and getting ready to tour their eagerly- awaited second EP. Timbali are an ethnic, electronic
bass movement originating from rural West Wales. Formed by DJ, producer and musician Oli Jack and producer Maslow, they soon discovered their third member, Cardiff-based musician and producer BRiX, who completed the line-up. Timbali mash-up a blend of
reggae, dub, ragga and world music in a heavy bass outfit, while maintaining the sound of a live band. Having already supported the
likes of David Rodigan, Molara and Dub Mafia, as well as tearing up lots of festivals in the summer, you should expect big things from this group. Their set will no doubt lift the roof
off, with live vocalists, instrumentalists and visuals on stage.
