‘It makes such a difference ‘: Gwen Davies (centre), a HOPE Programme participant, with HOPE Facilitators Mary Taylor and Helen Dorman A CANCER charity is offering
to help local people affected by cancer to ‘take control of their diagnosis’ by holding management programmes in Haverfordwest. Macmillan Cancer Support
will be holding two free self- management programmes at Slebech Park on February 15 and 16 from 10am–4.15pm. There will also be a follow-up day on March 29 from 11am–3pm. Called HOPE, the self-
management programme aims to help those battling with cancer to manage the day-to-day impact of
their condition, learn proactive ways to take control of their health and well-being and set positive goals for the future. Gwen Davies, who attended the
HOPE Programme last year, said: “I’d go on another programme if I had the opportunity; it really was fantastic. It makes such a difference speaking to people who know what you’re going through.” Susan Morris, Head of Services
for Macmillan Cancer Support in Wales, said: “We at Macmillan know that receiving a cancer diagnosis has a huge emotional impact.
“Around 19,000 people receive
the devastating news that they have cancer every year in Wales and they need more than medical help – they also need practical, emotional and financial support. “I would strongly recommend
the programme as it can provide people with the tools they need to manage the emotional consequences of living with cancer.” Those wanting to attend the
programme need to register in advance. To do so, contact Genette Webster on 01656 867960 or email

successful year for the club, with a lot of interesting finds made - some of which have been declared treasure and are on display in local museums. Members supported the local

December 1 to Boxing Day, she raised £150 for the local charity PATCH - Pembrokeshire Action to Combat Hardship. The Milford Haven-based food
