THE LAUNCH of a new award
by Dyfed-Powys Police is celebrating the work of officers and staff at the force. Anyone who has come into
contact with the force is encouraged to nominate individuals for the #WeCare award, which aims to celebrate individuals who have gone above and beyond to provide exceptional care and support. This could range from a PC who
has kept a victim updated on the progress of an investigation, or a chaplain who has supported a family during tragic times, to a schools officer who has helped youngsters deal with difficult issues. The award also extends to
members of staff who have proved to be invaluable to community groups, from helping to run safety campaigns to providing reassurance at PACT meetings. Chief Constable Mark Collins
said: “We are proud to launch the first #WeCare Award, recognising the work of our officers and staff. “Our staff are at the frontline of
policing and this award is a chance to say thank you for the efforts they make. “We would like to hear from

Revd Canon Joanna Penberthy: New Bishop of St Davids WALES’ first woman bishop
was concreted last weekend, making history for the small city of St Davids. Revd Canon Joanna Penberthy was
consecrated as Bishop of St Davids at Llandaff Cathedral last Saturday (Jan 21).
Elected as the 129th Bishop of St
Davids by members of the Electoral College in November, this was the first opportunity for a woman to be elected as a bishop following the church’s decision in 2013 to allow the ordination of woman bishops. Revd Canon Joanna Penberthy
was consecrated by the Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan, with the five other Welsh bishops. The Archbishop gave the address. Dr Morgan, who retires on January
(L-R): Bernard Williams; Judith Williams, External Fundraiser for the Paul Sartori Foundation; and Ann Williams
BERNARD and Ann Williams,
from Llandeloy, recently organised a coffee morning in the village of Llanrhian, near St Davids, in memory of their best man, Vernon Davies, raising £600 for the Paul Sartori Foundation. Bernard and Ann have been
married for 50 years and celebrated their special anniversary in May 2016. They have been friends with
Vernon for 61 years and in recognition for support given to Vernon by the Foundation wanted to give something back. The coffee morning was well
attended by the local community in memory of Vernon Davies of Llandeloy, beloved husband to Gloria. “We were really pleased with the
final amount raised and want to thank everybody who helped,” said Ann, adding: “And delighted to have given this to Paul Sartori who were there for Vernon, Gloria and the family.” Judith Williams, Paul Sartori
Foundation’s External Funding Administrator, thanked Bernard and
Ann. She said: “The amount raised will directly help more people in Pembrokeshire who require our services, and ensure that we can continue to offer the vital care and support to people living in the county with any life-limiting illness.” Coffee mornings and local
community events like these are crucial to the Paul Sartori Foundation. If you have an idea for a local fundraiser, but would like some help and advice, the Foundation urges you to contact Toni Dorkings, the Foundation’s Community Fundraiser, either via email at toni@paulsartori. org or by phoning 01437 763223. The services provided by the Paul
Sartori Foundation are free of charge, available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and enable people who are living in the later stages of any life-limiting illness to die at home if that is their wish, with dignity, independence, pain free and surrounded by those they hold most dear. 31, said: “This is a historic occasion for the Church in Wales, as well as a being hugely significant moment for Canon Joanna. It is marvellous that it is possible for us to appoint women
as well as men to all three orders of Ministry and to regard that as now being the norm. What matters is not gender but suitability, character, gifts and that was why Joanna was elected as Bishop. “I hope everyone will celebrate
with us and support Joanna and pray for her as she embarks on this next stage in her ministry.” Canon Jo, who was previously
Rector of Glan Ithon, in the Diocese of Swansea and Brecon, said: “While being made Bishop is awe inspiring, I am very much looking forward to joining the people of St Davids diocese as we seek to live out and share our faith in the Risen Christ.” Following her consecration,
Bishop Joanna will be enthroned at St Davids Cathedral on February 11. Revd Canon Joanna Penberthy
was born in Swansea and grew up in Cardiff. Educated at Cardiff High School and graduating from Newnham College, Cambridge, she trained for
the ministry at St John’s College, Nottingham and Cranmer Hall, Durham. In 1984, she was appointed
Deaconess and in 1987, she was ordained as a Deacon. In 1997, she was among the first women ordained as priests in Wales. Having served in the dioceses of
Durham, Llandaff, St Asaph and St Davids, she was also the Provincial Officer for Parish Development and Renewal for five years. In 2007, Jo was appointed a Canon at St Davids Cathedral. Canon Joanna left Wales in 2010 to
serve in the Diocese of Bath and Wells but returned last year as Rector of Glan Ithon, in the Diocese of Swansea and Brecon, based in Llandrindod Wells. Married to the Revd Adrian
Penberthy, they have four grown- up children and one grandchild. Her interests include quantum physics (currently studying for a PhD), reading and bird-watching.
