Poole Athletic Club A South-West Schools Champion!

In the South-West Schools’ Cross- Country Championships, held in a wet and muddy Truro in February, a determined Finn P. (pictured) narrowly won the Minor Boys’ race. With twins Cameron (16th) and Connor C. (34th) he helped Dorset to the bronze medals. Seven PAC athletes competed for Dorset in other age-groups, six of them fi nishing in the scoring six for their team. The best of these were Ben L. (8th in the Inter. Boys) and Liam O. (14th in the Junior Boys.) Emilie C. (pictured) was the outstanding girl, third in her Junior Girls’ race (out of 65 fi nishers), and

helping Dorset to team victory. At least 50 fi nished in all eight races. The next challenge for the County teams will be the ESAA Finals in Norwich in March.

More successes indoors!

Canford School was the venue for the Dorset Sports Hall Championships in January. Of the six participating clubs, Wimborne, Bournemouth, Poole

44 Lower Blandford Road, Broadstone

and Dorchester brought the biggest contingents. There were 178 entries. The excellent attitude of all our athletes produced many best performances.

The u11s contested many running events, including an Obstacle Relay; their fi eld events were speed bounce, target throw, chest push, vertical jump, standing long jump and triple jump. Our girls achieved nine podium places (one winner). The boys had six top threes (two winners).

Our u13s, doing shot putt – rather than the simpler throws – and adding high jump, were more

successful, the girls having three winners and nine other podium places. The boys had six winners and eleven other top threes.

The six PAC u15 boys and girls won eight events and were placed in fi ve others.

We look forward to the County team selections for the South-West Finals in Paignton in March.
