Churches Together in Broadstone

Churches Together in Broadstone invites you to come along to any of the services or events we hold. You can be assured of a friendly welcome.

Dear Friends and Neighbours

Welcome to the season of Lent. This is a season when Christians refl ect on the suffering and death of Christ as we prepare for the celebration of Easter. For Christians, recognising the season of Lent can enrich our worship and deepen our faith in God. For non-Christians it can be used as a time of inner self-refl ection – a time to pause in our life and consider. For all, Lent is a great time for renewal.

To help us in this venture of renewal, Churches in Broadstone are offering some joint initiatives.

Traditionally many Christians have observed Lent by prayer, fasting and almsgiving. What is prayer? Different people pray in different ways and during Lent the churches are running fi ve workshops on prayer, exploring different forms of prayer. The sessions are on fi ve consecutive Wednesdays during Lent from 2pm to 3pm at St. John’s Church Hall, Macaulay Road:

8th March: Different prayer at different times Rev Linda Carter

15th March: Lectio Divina Father Colin Groombridge

22nd March: Praying the Rosary Canon John Webb

29th March: Exploring sacred space and time Canon Jane LLoyd

5th April: Ignatian Spirituality Canon Nigel LLoyd

Everyone is most welcome – no need to have any experience in praying!

First Friday of the month – ‘Broadway’ – for families, 6.15-7.30pm, including supper.

30 To advertise, please contact 01202 657317 or email karen@broadstonelink.co.uk

Also on Wednesdays, and at the same location as the Prayer Workshops, we will be holding our Lent Lunches starting at 12 noon. The lunch consists of homemade soup, a small piece of cheese and a roll. A donation of £3 (or more) is suggested and all money raised goes to Christian Aid. The churches of Broadstone take turns in hosting these Wednesday lunches and they prove to be a very nice, sociable way of enjoying a simple meal and raising money for people in need.

If you would like to try a little serious Lenten praying, each Monday during Lent (starting 6th March at St Anthony’s, 135 York Road), there will be Stations of the Cross at 10am. Everyone in the community is invited to this service, which will last about half an hour. Stations of the Cross will also be held at 7.30pm on Wednesday evenings during Lent at St Anthony’s.

As a witness to our Christian faith the Churches will be holding the annual Walk of Witness, starting at the United Reformed Church (URC), Higher Blandford Road, on Good Friday at 10am. We will walk along the Broadway and end at the Methodist Church for a joint Good Friday service. There will also be a Good Friday service at St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church on Wimborne Road, Poole at 3pm.

Recognising the season of Lent can bring inner peace, do join us.
