cooper’s Pharmacy in Belfast has opened the doors to its new approach to community healthcare and pharmacy services. cooper’s is the first pharmacy in Belfast to be fully transformed as part of the careway scheme, which is run in partnership with Sangers AAh.
As part of careway, the pharmacy, which was founded by Paul and Sarah cooper, is now part of a network of community pharmacies that combine state-of-the-art services with the local passion and knowledge of a trusted independent pharmacy team.
following the modern makeover, local residents can now benefit from free, enhanced services for a range of conditions, including skin health and pain management.
‘We’re delighted to be part of the careway network,’ pharmacist michael cooper said at the launch, ‘as it enables us to better support our patients’ health needs and serve our community. one of our main goals is to help people help themselves and give them the confidence to discuss their health concerns with us. We are excited to welcome the people of Belfast to cooper’s Pharmacy for expert health advice and a friendly welcome, rather than waiting for a gP appointment or going to A&E for minor ailments come and see us.

positive. over the last few years, cooper’s Pharmacy has undergone several extensive refits, so our customers are well used to changes, but there’s no doubt that they’re always very receptive to them.
‘one of the changes that has proven to be most popular has been the signposting of category management above gondolas. this has made it much easier for patients to find products and many have commented on the improved ‘customer friendly’ signposting.
‘At cooper’s we work very much on the basis of fulfilling our customers’ needs. As such - as with most community pharmacies - pain management is a major issue and so our large ‘pain cabinet’ is a major talking point. the display of pain products – including P products – makes it easier for our staff – who are all trained in pain management and pain products – to engage patients in talking about their pain issues.

‘Also, in light of the ageing population, and the desire to keep people living at home for as long as possible, we now provide - as part of the careway scheme – the Betterlife range of products. Betterlife is designed for assisted living and the range includes items such as walking sticks, back cushions and mobility scooters. We don’t keep all of the products in stock, but customers can order them from catalogues. We’ve already had a great response to this range – simply because, again, we’re meeting our customers’ needs. overall, this new venture with

careway is already bringing very positive feedback.
‘careway is an excellent programme that really brings together the expertise and experience of AAh alongside local passion for health services,’ Peter Surgenor, managing director of Sangers said as he cut the ribbon and declared the new-look pharmacy launched.
‘We are really pleased to be opening the first of its kind in Northern Ireland offering outstanding healthcare that local people can trust.’
