QF Focus Magazine Book Review by Ivor Kindle

Book Title: The English... A Portrait Of A People Author: Jeremy Paxman Publisher: Penguin Books

Paxman has written this book to be entertaining and at the same time informative. The narrative of this book is that it is about the English ...not the Scots or the Irish nor the Welsh.

Paxman explains that in his view being English and British are not the same thing. To support his views he uses adjuncts from history where he sees

specific weaknesses and strengths of the English as being part of the character of the English as a people.

I read this book all the while constantly asking myself “Is that me?” or “Am I like that?".

Interesting and with a message

of enquiry. Are you English? Do you know who you are?

Maybe the answer is in this book. ...keep reading Ivor Kindle.
