Queen Elizabeth by Michael Walter Smith

On the 29th November 2016, the Queen Elizabeth, arrived at Cartagena from Barcelona with an evening departure to Southampton via Gibraltar.

Queen Elizabeth is one of 3 vessels operated by Cunard, the others being Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria. These 3 ships are registered in Hamilton, Bermuda. Captains of ships registered in Bermuda can marry couples at sea, and this is reportedly a lucrative market.

In previous issues of the QF Focus magazine I briefly mentioned attire on board cruise ships. Cruise Lines differ slightly and this frequently is a concern of would be cruisers. Documented as 'one of the great thrills of a Cunard Cruise', is the sheer glamour of the evenings.

Evening attire, effective from 6pm is specified in the ships daily programme delivered to your stateroom. Generally evening dress may be either formal or informal at sea. Informal or casual in port.

Formal for men - tuxedo (or formal dark suit) and for ladies - evening gown or other formal attire. Informal for men - jacket and tie and for ladies - cocktail dress, dressy trouser suit or similar. Casual for men - slacks and a sweater or shirt and for ladies - skirt or slacks with a sweater or blouse. A range of formal wear is normally available to hire on board.

The 2017 itinerary includes:- January from New York to San Francisco. 26th February - Sydney to Singapore. 30th March - Singapore to Cape Town returning to Southampton 8th May, then operating within Europe. One interesting cruise is 5 nights, 6 days round trip listed as - Queen Elizabeth Big Band Ball - departing Southampton 20th August to Rotterdam, Zeebrugge, Guernsey, Southampton. Note - one agent lists the cost as 860 US dollars, interior stateroom per person, double occupancy. Check with your local travel agent for special deals in sterling or Euros.
