A View From

Welcome to my monthly column “A view from the top”. Hopefully you will find my rambling readable (maybe even enjoyable). You may agree or you may disagree with my views, I care not. These are my views long held and forged over a life time of work, travel and experience. Now that’s over let’s have a look at what is really winding me up.

The New Year. Hello to all and a happy and prosperous New Year to you and yours. Now if you are like me you will start the New Year with a determination to do things better this year than you have done in the dim and distant past. Yes people it's New Year

resolution time.. although for my part I would rather have a New Year revolution and sweep away the deadwood politicians that are hell bent on destroying Britain and its place in the World. Anyway, that said I bet you out there in the real world have decided to ...

join the gym... or go for a run, if not every day then at least twice a week... or cut out the beer or walk the dog a little more than you do at the moment. For my part I have given long and thoughtful consideration to a number of changes I could make to my lifestyle and have decided that I am perfectly happy as I am. I have realised that in my case a New Year resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other. To all you diehards however I wish you well in your endeavours ...just be careful and realise that the old knees and lungs are not what they used to be.

A walk on the wild and smelly side. It's New Year's day and I am just home from a brisk and invigorating walk along the River Bank in Benijofar. Of course being a dog owner, my faithful friend Santos accompanied me on my walk. The weather was bright and our walk was enhanced by the beautiful surroundings and sights as you walk along the somewhat overgrown bank of the Segura river. The reeds do need cutting back, but that said being overgrown gives the place a wild feeling that adds to the beauty of the place. Bird life abounds and the walk became even more interesting when a pair of hovering birds of prey saw fit to entertain us with their aerial ability ...magical. During our walk the time reached 11.30 and this announced the local churches to start to peel their call to prayer. It was a least two sets of bells that were calling, each calling with a different bell call. It was really nice and ushered in my New Year in some style.
