Brian and Pat - 40 years in business.
MILTON Keynes was still in its infancy when Brian and Pat Currie started their truck repair business in 1975 and, over the years, the dealership has grown in size and stature just like its home city. Initially based in Newport Pagnell, the business
soon acquired a name for excellent customer service and was appointed a DAF Trucks service dealer after two years. 1977 also saw the arrival of the business' first apprentice, marking them out as an employer of choice in the region. Three years later the business moved to Bleak Hall where its Head Office can still be found and the name Brian Currie (Milton Keynes) Limited has been synonymous with the city of Milton Keynes ever since. The company has gradually expanded to keep
pace with the ever changing demands of the road transport industry and has three DAF truck dealerships in Milton Keynes, Northampton and Bedford with three repair centres dedicated to two major fleet customers. In 2007 the company was appointed a Fiat
Professional Van Dealer at Bleak Hall with Bedford following suit in 2011. In 2014 the company invested
over £1 million in the refurbishment of its Bleak Hall Van Centre and was appointed as a Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle Van Centre. The Bleak Hall workshops are also a VOSA ATF MOT testing station for trucks and trailers and house one of only a few body and paint shops in the country with 30 metre long paint booths. Just as Milton Keynes has remained faithful to the
principals on which it was founded, Brian Currie (Milton Keynes) Ltd too has stayed true to its roots and remains a family owned business with Brian and Pat’s son Philip and daughter Heather in the business. A truly community focused business with customer service at its heart. Testament to this is its long- serving workforce and wide, loyal customer base. As well as being one of Milton Keynes oldest
businesses, employing over 160 people across the region, including 11 apprentices the business is committed to the local community. Each year Willen Hospice is provided with a new van for its work and in October 2016 the South Central Ambulance Charity was presented with a fully equipped Volkswagen Caddy van as a First Responder vehicle. The company is also a 'Friend of the MK Dons
Sport and Education Trust', enabling educational programmes to be delivered throughout the region and actively support local schools by hosting work experience placements and providing relevant information and guidance to students on their
company's philanthropic outlook is the MK Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association whose monthly drop-in meetings are being funded by the business for the next three years.
Managing Director Huw Teasdale presents a £15,000 cheque to MNDA.
Brian Currie, although now part time, takes an
active role as Company Chairman, and is justifiably proud of the business, saying: “The MK50 celebrations are a perfect opportunity to take stock of all we have achieved. Being a part of the MK business community has given us support to grow and develop over the years and, as well as being proud of our achievements, we are excited about the future.”
