SJD Electrical is thrilled to be commemorating the milestone 50th birthday of Milton Keynes, which also coincides with our 25th anniversary celebrations. SJD was founded in 1992 by Institution of Engineering and Technology-incorporated engineer Stephen Devine following the closure of Milton Keynes Development Corporation, where he worked for many years inspecting and managing the new industrial and commercial development springing up rapidly across Milton Keynes. SJD was incorporated in 1996 and traded from Stephen’s home for ten years, building a great reputation serving residents and commercial clients. In 2006 SJD moved into premises in Mount Farm and daughter Ruth Devine joined the firm to introduce the structure and processes needed to support the development of the business. In 2013 SJD moved to its office in Stonebridge and early last year welcomed Darren Hurley as a co- director to help develop the contracting side and strengthen the management team. SJD has increased turnover by more than 50% this year and now has 18 employees including four apprentices. Future plans are to recruit a dedicated works manager, CAD

designer and more excellent electricians. Stephen retires in March 2017 and has created an enduring legacy. “At SJD, we are incredibly proud of our achievements, our hard- working team and their commitment to high standards of workmanship, service and problem- solving,” says Ruth. Over the past decade the company has served more than 750 local clients - recent notable projects include Johnson Matthey Battery Systems’ UK headquarters in Milton Keynes, Cranfield University, NiftyLift and Stony Stratford Community Church. SJD works with industry bodies
to improve skills and standards including participating in the first round of the Trailblazers apprenticeship scheme for electricians. It also works with the new Institute for Apprenticeships and the IET to improve recognition of competence.
