Swanage Regatta & Carnival 30th July – 6th August 2016


CARNIVAL TEAM ROW 6.00pm - Main Beach Swanage Sea Rowing club have spent the last few weeks helping local and surrounding sports clubs and businesses to master the art of gig rowing. Teams of six, consisting of novice rowers will challenge each other in short sprint racing. Heats of two boats will race close to the beach for everyone to watch, so make sure you come down to cheer them along! For anyone wishing to learn to row these historical clinker built boats, sessions are held weekly from the stone quay near the pier on Tuesday evenings at 6.00pm and also Saturday mornings at 9.30am, and members are always happy to answer any questions. Entry £5.00 per person.

TOUCH RUGBY 6.30pm to 9.30pm – Sandpit Field Registration from 6pm For the first time Touch Rugby will be taking place on Sandpit field. Definitely as thrilling as the Rio Olympics and as competitive as last year’s rugby World Cup as teams fight it out to win the 5 a Side Tournament!


Open to any team of 5. Entries taken on the day, £10 per team from 6pm. Come along and Hoot, Holler and Cheer the competing teams in this fast moving, exhilarating competition!

Enjoy the early evening sunshine and


listen to a selection of well-known favourites ranging from Hollywood Blockbusters and the Beatles, to Disney and Duke Ellington played by the 40 strong Town Band - something for everyone to enjoy! The band will also be playing at various events around Purbeck, as well as evening appearances at the bandstand during the summer. MUSIC IN THE MARQUEE THE VANNDORS 7.00pm to 8.00pm – Sandpit Field A young 4 piece indie rock band from Swanage, they describe their sound as Arctic Monkeys type songs with guitar melodies similar to The Smiths. This is a performance that will have everyone up on their toes… a must see band, you won’t be disappointed! See ‘Music in the Marquee’ on pages 34 & 35


ADULT SAND SCULPTURE 7.30pm to 9.00pm - Main Beach, opposite Tourist Information Centre Playing on the beach is not just for children - adults like to have a go too! Bring your bucket and spade, and sculpt imaginatively in the sand. All designs are welcome - so be creative! Bring along your family and friends, or have a go by yourself, because it’s not the size of the piece but the originality and quality of the design. Use of JCBs and earth-moving equipment is against the rules! Work to be completed by 8.45pm, judging soon after with prizes awarded for the best and most original pieces. Entry Fee: £3.50 per team.

FIREWORKS DISPLAY 9.45pm approximately - Seafront The second of our Fireworks


Spectaculars, the display will be fired from the Seafront Jetty, so make your way to the many vantage points around the bay - the Seafront, Sandpit Field, Downs or near the Quay, and await a thrilling time! DON’T FORGET - to bring lots of loose change when you come tonight! Our volunteers will be among the crowd collecting for the benefiting charities. NB If weather conditions prohibit tonight’s display, it will take place tomorrow evening.
