Procession Bands

Meridian Corps of Drums

The Meridian Corps of Drums, from Poole is a group of friends with a mutual interest in music and the development of youth in music. The band have had another busy year, taking part in many carnivals including Bridgewater. The band returned to Walt Disney World, Orlando, Florida in January this year, performing in the Magic Kingdom. Meridian celebrates its 5th Birthday this year at Swanage Carnival, with the current drum major, Georgina Britton, leading the band. A very warm welcome always awaits this band at the Carnival and probably is why it is such a band favourite!

The Ringwood Pipe Band

Ringwood Pipe Band began in 1978, formed by three players then based in Ringwood, and wears the uniform of the Seaforth Highlanders, with the Mackenzie Tartan. Since then it has grown and developed into one of the leading bands on the south coast of England with players living throughout Dorset and West Hampshire. The band has a long history of playing at Swanage Carnival, thoroughly enjoying the warm reception they receive. The Carnival is a highlight amidst many local events throughout the year. Free tuition is offered to new Pipers & Drummers, providing all the

kit except pipes. Practices are held at the Old School Hall, Sturminster Marshall, Tuesday evenings from 7:30pm to 10:00pm.

The band is always looking for new members who can contact them: 01202 429139

RAW Samba ‘RAW Samba has

gone from strength to strength’

RAW Samba is a Brazilian style samba band based in Ryde on the Isle of Wight. RAW Samba was formed in 2001 when the call went out for enthusiastic percussionists - ‘no experience required’. Originally funded through the Ryde Art Works programme, RAW Samba has gone from strength to strength. With 40 members who regularly practice each week, plus our dancers and flag bearers, we bring rhythm, fun and colour to every gig we play at. We regularly take out a 15-20 piece band to island carnivals and play at several charity events across the island through the year. During 2015 Raw Samba took part in the Brighton Pride procession, a total of over 15 miles including all the bands dance steps en route! In this our 15th year, it’s our pleasure to be attending Swanage Carnival week, and we hope to bring some of our Isle of Wight version of Samba!
