Heroes Need Your Help Dennis and Barbara accept any household items, furniture, electrical and clothes etc for the recycle projects.
They are happy to do total house clearances. The items are given a bit of TLC and sold in rastros and auctions to provide funds for the Emaús homes’ daily needs. They can be contacted on 660 961 585 or 96 583 6814.
The Make A Smile Greenhouse Project Self Sufficiency Program
The project combines a team of volunteers planting, harvesting and cultivating the land to produce farm fresh vegetables and fresh pressed Olive Oil at the
EMAUS home for mentally challenged youngsters. Chickens lay 800 eggs a week and along with the veggie bags bought by the general public, this helps to generate much needed funds to provide the essentials for them to survive. Help us to help them by volunteering on the farm or buying your vegetables from us each week! Find out more in the Facebook 'Make A Smile Greenhouse Project' group, email

HELP of Denia & Marina Alta donate electricity generator to Calpe Red Cross
C a n d y Wri g ht , President of HELP together with Sally Lillie met Francisco Molinos, the President of the Calpe Red Cross and Jorge Martín, co- ordinator for Calpe. They handed over a new petrol powered
electricity generator and two lights which can be used for illuminating a huge area during an emergency when no other power is available. The President of Denia Red Cross, Ana Belén kindly sourced the generator for HELP at a reduced price from Ateco, where she works in Denia and the lights were purchased at AKI. In the future HELP will continue to assist the Calpe Red Cross, hopefully by purchasing a new blow-up hospital tent.
*HELP of Denia & Marina Alta is a charity which raises money to benefit the whole community in the Spanish coastal region of Marina Alta.
Travellers’ Tales
Javea U3A members visited Madagascar and Scotland all in one week – and without leaving the comfort of the Javea Players studio in the Old Town!
The back-to- back experience was all part of the Travellers’ Tales programme, provided by group leaders Angela Chantry and Tony Dearie.
First off, U3A members Gillian Ashworth and Hugh Epsom gave an interesting presentation of their trip to the island of Madagascar, off the east coast of Africa. They thoroughly enjoyed their two weeks on the fourth largest island in the world, experiencing a diversity of plant and animal species and home to a unique variety of lemurs.
The holiday was a complete contrast to that of fellow member Tom Stevenson, who, just seven days later gave an illustrated talk centred on his homeland of Central Scotland – appropriately accompanied by Scottish-style rain outside, which merely added to the atmosphere!
