Local firm joins Prime Minister on trade mission
A Loughborough firm which products are used in international relief efforts around the world has travelled to India as part of Theresa May’s first trade trip. Morningside Pharmaceuticals has been used by some
of the biggest international relief charities and global agencies – including the World Health Organisation, Red Cross, Médecins Sans Frontières and the United Nations. And now it will be able to
showcase its expertise in delivering pharmaceuticals, medical devices and diagnostic tests to one of the world’s fastest growing markets. The Loughborough-based business aims to build relationships with manufacturing facilities in India and develop new technologies to create jobs and growth in the UK. It travelled to India as part of a delegation fronted by Theresa May which mainly consisted of small and medium-sized companies seeking to attract Indian investors. medium-sized firms seeking new business on the trip. The visit will include South Asia’s largest tech fair.
The UK-India TECH Summit will be hosted in New Delhi by the Prime Minister and her Indian counterpart. Dr Nik Kotecha, Chief Executive
Officer of Morningside Pharmaceuticals, said: “It is a pleasure and honour to be invited by the Prime Minister on her first trade trip to India. “Given the UK’s long-term ties
with India, there are great opportunities for Morningside to work in collaboration with Indian companies for research and
development, manufacturing and licencing of new technologies both in India and the UK.” The Prime Minister will use the Indian visit to deliver
the best of British on my trade trip to India – and Morningside Pharmaceuticals is a great example of what the United Kingdom can offer the world as we leave the EU. “Its work in supporting international relief efforts has
clear and obvious resonance for Asian markets. And this pioneering trade trip will give them direct contacts
on the ambitious vision for Britain after Brexit she set out in a speech last month, forging a new global role for the UK as a country with the self-confidence and the freedom to look beyond the continent of Europe. She will also use the visit to deliver on her pledge to
create an economy that truly works for all, by introducing new and emerging enterprises, as well as more established players, to the key Indian market.
