As the graph above shows that whilst most areas experienced a rise in people aged 65 and over, there are differences in age structures in the different areas of East Renfrewshire. Between 2001 and 2011, the increase in the percentages of over 65s in Newton Mearns, Clarkston and Williamwood, Eaglesham and Waterfoot, Neilston and Uplawmoor was higher than the Council average. Thornliebank and Busby were the only areas to experience a slight decrease in older people. Busby was one of few areas which had an increase in the proportion of their population aged under 15. Thornliebank had an increase in the percentage of working age people.
