All wards in East Renfrewshire have changed their religious make up over the past decade. The highest proportions of the population who identified as ‘Church of Scotland’ live in the wards of Newton Mearns South or Busby, Clarkston and Eaglesham. The highest proportion of people identified as ‘Roman Catholic’ are located in the Barrhead ward (stayed same at 30% over past 10 years). Wards with the largest increases in ‘Roman Catholic’ population include Giffnock and Thornliebank and Netherlee, Stamperland and Williamwood. The highest proportion of ‘Muslim’ population live in the Giffnock and Thornliebank ward, with a high proportion of people based in the ward of Neilston, Uplawmoor and Newton Mearns North as well as Newton Mearns South. The proportion of ‘Jewish’ population is highest in Newton Mearns South and Giffnock, Thornliebank.
All wards in East Renfrewshire have become more ethnically diverse as a result, with the Giffnock and Thornliebank and Neilston, Uplawmoor and Newton Mearns North and Newton Mearns South wards being the most ethnically diverse wards in 2011.
