Sushi Yama 319 South Min Street Traveler’s Rest, SC (864) 610-2639 Travelers Rest, near Greenville,
You never know what goodies you may find at Joe’s Place. On this day I had a cheese and cracker small plate and Mary added fresh watermelon as an added treat!
and singing at Joe’s on a regular basis. Each weekend they lave live music. Of course there is a vast selection of new and used books, and a wine and coffee bar. Joe’s Place is always holding special events and wine tastings and much more, so if you are living in the area, I highly recommend signing up for their e-mail newsletter so you can avoid missing some- thing special. Speaking of special. I simply love their
lunch menu. Try their famous chicken salad. It’s so good! Comes with grapes, on a bed of lettuce with crackers on the side. Equally tasty is their Black Bean Thai Salad or my fa- vorite, Pimento Cheese made with four differ- ent cheeses. All salads listed above are just $6.95 each. A steal! And they all go well with a glass or wine or an ice cold beer (Blue Moon is my favorite.) Also available is the “Pimento Pizzazz,”
flat bread topped with pimento cheese and bacon. Now how much would you pay? Only $6.95. Or you can choose a small plate (as I often do) with your choice of cheese and salami, cheese and jam, or cheese only, served with grapes and crackers. Also $6.95. (Anyone else see a pattern here on pricing?) Along with a full page of wines avail-
is a city on the rise. The city has been bringing in some mighty fine restau- rants and attractions lately, and Sushi Yama is an excellent addition. They serve a wide variety of sushi as
well as Teriyaki and Hibachi dishes, both at lunch and at dinner. We were there for an early lunch, and
my friend ordered the Sushi Bento ($12) which looked awesome. Sushi rolls, salad, gyoza and noodles. I ordered seaweed salad and two salmon rolls ($8). Mighty tasty, Highly recommended!
Japan House (Three locations in Spartanburg, SC, includ- ing the one I eat at, 1989 E. Main Street) They promote themselves as Japanese
fast food, and that’s very accurate. When I walk in to order, I am usually out of there 8- 10 minutes later with my to-go order. They are very efficient, friendly, and total profes- sional chefs. The menu has everything from tem-
pura to teriyaki and hibachi but I am all about the sushi. The chef creates each roll to order, so it is always fresh. I always order a Califor- nia Roll ($3.49) and a Philly Roll ($3.99) with seaweed salad $3.25) and have two meals! Excellent!
