My whole point was to have some success and react to it without being affected either way. I think I got great encouragement and great ad- vice and I took it to heart- gracious on the way up and gracious on the way down. I think to me I’ve always had a good common sense view that the gifts I have been given are spe- cial. The ability to play and sing like I can are gifts. You know, I worked my ass off to learn how to do it and put in all the hours. but it’s just the gifts that are special. You don’t get to go, “because I have these gifts, now I’m spe- cial too.” If you can keep that in perspective, all is well.


I wanted to close by quoting Townes Van Zant.I think it suits you. I use it all the time. “There are only two kind of music. The blues a zippidy-doo-dah.” And I don’t do zippidy-doo-dah. (Laughing) I’m

could go back and look at some of the things I have done that might have a little bit of zip- pidy-doo-dah in them. (Laughing) •
