toric site. I was trying to absorb all of the information about this three-day battle, the bloodiest of the Civil War. Did you know that more men died during the Gettysburg battle than in any other on American soil, ever? Wow. I have never seen so many historic
monuments. They are scattered along every road, some small, some medium, and then there’s the Robert E. Lee monu- ment, rising high into the sky. Beautiful. The Confederate monuments number many fewer than the Union, but there are some beautiful ones. The South Carolina monument is quite nice, but I must say, of all Confederate monuments, North Carolina takes the cake. It is amazing. A sight to behold. As we rode around, Joe and Craig en-

an amazing sound. Good stuff. In fact, they play so well that while they were rocking, the US men’s track and relay team won big! The guys gave me a copy of their CD as well. (See review this issue.) After the gig we returned to the Stevens
house for r&r. (Rest and relaxation, not rock and roll.) Sunday would prove to be a major Civil War history lesson. Sunday: We drove to Gettysburg, Penn-
sylvania and headed for the Gettysburg Bat- tlefield entrance, gift shop, museum etc. People from all walks of life and from all over the world were there to tour the battleground. Craig had reserved us a guide named Joe who told us he had been doing tours for many, many years. He got behind the wheel of Craig’s car, and for the next two and a half to three hours, he took us on the most detailed and amazing tour I have ever been a part of. Joe knew the details like you wouldn’t be- lieve. As a matter of note, we were being rained on, here and there, during the whole tour, but that in no way took away from the excitement I felt driving around such an his-
gaged in many conversations, both being Civil War buffs. I mean, I am a “buff” for
sure, but know little about the war of North- ern aggression. They mentioned the film Get- tysburg, and I made a note that I wanted to see it. Within a day of returning home, I found a new copy on eBay, a 2-disc set filled with excellent bonus footage. I just watched it yesterday. Martin Sheen was very good as General Lee, and I always love Sam Elliott in movies like this. He is a natural for period
