Fusion Lifestyle in collaboration with Historic Pools of Britain has announced plans for the next phase of its ongoing restoration of Victoria Baths in Manchester, which include the re-opening of the Turkish Baths and the creation of a Health Suite.
The venue opened in September 1906 and operated as a public facility until its closure in 1993. Since 2000 it has been managed by the Victoria Baths Trust, with the support

of Manchester City Council. The Trust is working towards the complete restoration of the building and the opening of at least one pool, of which the total cost is projected to be £30m. Phase One was made possible thanks to success in BBC Two’s
fi rst Restoration series in 2003, which came with £3m from Heritage Lottery Fund, and saw the front block of the Baths restored together with internal structural repairs to the Turkish Baths. It is estimated that Phase Two will cost £3.5m and with the fundraising, planning and project construction required is expected to take around fi ve years to reach completion. All the original tiling, marble slabs, steam room and ceramic ceilings of the Turkish Baths will be preserved so that the public can once again enjoy the authentic experience as conceived by
Iconic Saltdean Lido Takes Shape
Sundance Pools supplied an Aphrodite one piece pool as part of a large home extension project in Wiltshire. The steel-framed pool house was constructed with oak cladded beams, coping stones matched to fl oor tiles and fl oor-to-ceiling windows.
The client opted for a key-operated slatted automatic safety
cover, four LED underwater lights, C-Salt salt water chlorination and a ducted air handling system. As a solution to window condensation as well as effective heating, this air system uses a dehumidifi er in the plant room to draw in moist air before recirculating it as dry air and channelling it towards the window panes. “The most signifi cant trial of this project was delivery,” explains Ed. “The client’s home was located down a narrow private road, so there were just millimetres to spare either side of the pool as the lorry made its way past neighbours’ garden walls. “On arriving at the customer’s driveway the one-piece pool was then transferred to a specialist trailer capable of going off

hardstanding, behind a 4x4 vehicle with better manoeuvrability. The pool was then transported between the house and an adjacent lake and a telehandler was fi nally used to place the pool into position.”
