The requirement for pools to adhere to stringent safety regulations, has led to an increase of certain materials such as anti- slip edging, becoming available on the market. Just as more design aspects are considered in a pool and spa setting, so is safety. In the past, the limited colours and rather abrasive finishes of anti-slip tiles gave pools an industrial look, but now the ranges can effortlessly blend with other tiles and hold their own as a tasteful yet highly safe application – adding to a design, rather than hindering it. “As with any submerged installation it is imperative to ensure that a suitable tile is used on an appropriate substrate. If properly adhered and grouted, there should be very little in the way of special maintenance,” advises Kevin Grant, Associate Contract Sales Director for Designworks Tiles.
“The key to avoiding pitfalls is as with most things, do your homework first. Ensure that you that your mosaic or tile is fit for purpose. Not everything that looks wonderful as a sample piece may be suitable.
SLIP RESISTANCE “Always check things like slip resistance, surrounds and even simple things like grout colours for the tank.
