Business school marks 70 years with £10m investment

Henley Business School is marking 70 years as part of the Henley community and economy by investing £10 million in the building of 60 new ensuite bedrooms at Greenlands to the equivalent standard of a four-star hotel.

The rooms will be in two new low-rise buildings constructed on the footprint of existing buildings. The architectural style, the materials and the landscaping design will reflect the existing buildings and will be sympathetic to the Grade-2-listed main building and its unique setting by the Thames.

They have been designed to be sustainable, energy-efficient and cost-effective, using high-quality, low-energy, responsibly-sourced Green-Guide-specified materials to meet the BREEAM standards of the world’s leading sustainability organisation, BRE Global.

Careful planning has been undertaken to ensure that the normal running of the campus will not be disrupted: the transport statement has been agreed by the Highway Authority; a noise assessment has been accepted by the local panning authority; an ecological appraisal, which involved obtaining a European Protected Species licence from

Natural England, has been completed; and building works will be completed within the Considerate Constructors Scheme, designed to establish the highest standards of care, safety and respect for the work area, environment and people.

John Board, dean of Henley Business School, commented: “This is an important investment in our Greenlands campus and is part of our plan to remain a global centre for business leaders, academics and students from around the world.”

Roadshow to tackle property hot topics

With economic growth slowing, an EU referendum looming, and tax rises on the property industry, the sector is pondering what to expect in the next 12 months.

The Thames Valley office of audit, tax and advisory firm Crowe Clark Whitehill, in partnership with property advisers Montagu Evans, is looking to answer some of the questions at an upcoming National Property and Construction Roadshow.

Participants will be debating industry hot topics as well as changes that impact property and construction. Topics include the future of commercial and residential values, tax developments and exit strategies, the impact of stalling prime London values on the national UK market, VAT changes, plus the impact of Budget 2016 and the EU referendum on the industry.

It takes place on Wednesday, June 29, at Crowe Clark Whitehill’s offices at Aquis House, 49-51 Blagrave Street, Reading RG1 1PL. Registration begins at 8.30am for a 9am seminar start, closing at 10am.

This annual event is of particular interest to property owners, directors of property companies and advisers to property businesses.
