Established UK planning and development consultancy Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners opened its Thames Valley office in Reading in January 2015, quickly gained a wide range of regional instructions, and is currently involved in some major development projects.


NLP believes sustainable growing economies are built with ideas and knowledge as much as capital and labour. Throughout 2015, the NLP team has developed various industry research papers, planning tools and methodologies, and recently helped Thames Valley Berkshire LEP establish and define functional economic market areas operating across the sub-region.


Formed in 2009, Marlow-based Stubbings Property Marketing reached a £1 million milestone last year, with its turnover growing 342% in four years. Founded by director Helen Todd to focus on the new homes sector, Stubbings specialist in-house team now numbers 11.


Despite its size, the firm offers ‘a full package under one roof’ from project management, sales and marketing support to PR, land buying and market research. Significant highlights include residential and commercial work with Slough Urban Renewal – a collaboration between Slough Borough Council and Morgan Sindall Investments.


Although Turley planning consultancy’s Thames Valley region work goes back many years, it is only 12 months since its Reading office opened. As an employee-owned full service company, it claims a unique engaged culture of

loyalty, strong relationships, stability and exemplary client service – leading to a fast-growing workbook.


This includes applying and gaining development permission in London’s Green Belt for Pinewood Studios expansion; co-ordinating the planning process for Westgate, Oxford’s largest city-centre development site; and three major University of Reading redevelopment projects.


Peter Kavanagh, group managing director of the sponsoring Romans Group, itself a fast-growing property business, announced the winner – Stubbings Property Marketing.


Helen Todd managing director of Stubbings Property Marketing, was plainly delighted with the award: “It’s fantastic. We are absolutely over the moon. We had so much love in the room tonight, with so many clients here, and people we deal with in the Thames Valley, which makes it even more pleasing. Our industry is great fun, everyone is very loyal and supportive but to get recognised like this as a small business in front of our peers is amazing.”


Formerly sales director with Linden Homes for 12 years, Todd set out on her own seven years ago. “The Linden team gave me their blessing to do something new and exciting and come away from the boardroom, which is what I have done.” Todd said that, supported by her 11-strong team, she was definitely achieving her business dream – one that is continuing to grow. “We are doing a lot of work now with Slough Urban Renewal and several other clients.” Slough’s ongoing regeneration was producing additional work for Stubbings in residential, leisure and commerce fields. “It is really exciting being part of that growth story.”


So will Stubbings continue to grow rapidly? “We have a core team in our office but growth will depend on the number of sites that we have live, and the demand for support and on-site sales advisers.”
