June: crunch month – the month of the EU referendum; the month when we decide whether we want to remain in the ‘club’ of member countries of the European Union, or go it alone. With the vote on June 23 likely to have profound consequences for businesses across the UK, we asked our panel of regional experts for their views on this key question – and others – in the latest Taking the Temperature survey, supported by leading law firm Penningtons Manches. In advance of the vote on whether Britain should remain in the European Union taking place on June 23, our panel was asked the simple question: “Should we stay or should we go?

Unsurprisingly, our business leaders were concerned about the Brexit vote on the economy, and especially with the ability of Britain to negotiate favourable trade agreements if we voted ‘out’.

Malcolm Head of The Head Partnership said: “I would vote ‘Bremain’ because I don’t have any confidence in those ‘leaders’ supporting Brexit having the ability or the skills to negotiate and achieve the benefits and advantages they are promising.”

Rob Pickering of ActionCOACH agreed: “Stay. The benefits of staying outweigh the uncertainty, cost and distraction of leaving.”

Mark Evans of Adaptix Imaging, was equally certain: “We should remain. The reduction in investment and economic activity resulting from

the uncertainty and disruption to market access exceed the potential benefits defined.”

Paul Macbeth of Macbeth Insurance summed it up: “Reaching customers in EU countries, the limited talent pool we have here in the UK, and the impact on inward investment are all reasons to stay.”
