A golden celebration for B P Collins

Next month sees leading Buckinghamshire law firm B P Collins LLP celebrate its 50th anniversary, an occasion it is marking with a series of events and activities under the 'Made to Last' banner

It was July 1, 1966 when founding partner Brian Collins originally took over a local law firm and changed its name to B P Collins & Co, starting off with a small office in Chalfont St Peter, complete with a secretary and part-time bookkeeper.

Today, from those small beginnings, the practice has grown into a highly-respected, innovative and forward-thinking firm with 13 partners, over 50 lawyers and trainees, and a hard-working support team.

Last August, new chief executive Ian Hopkins joined the firm with a strong mandate for growth and expansion. He has already revealed an ambition to build B P Collins into a £10 million practice over the next three years and is passionate about driving the business forward.

“This is a very special year for us and we are delighted to be celebrating our 50th anniversary. We have a tremendous heritage and a terrific team of people with a huge amount of specialist expertise, so the Made to Last banner really sums up our ethos,” said Hopkins.

“We are there for our clients every step of the way; whether on a personal or business level, from the day they get married or buy their first house, to looking after an ageing family or setting up a business; needing property for expansion, managing employment needs or settling disputes.

“After 50 glorious years, it is also time for us to look to our own future. We want to build on these foundations to take us to an even higher level, ensuring that excellence in customer service is combined with an innovative and forward-thinking approach, keeping us at the forefront of the legal sector across both Buckinghamshire and our neighbouring counties for many years to come.”

Hopkins’ strategy puts clients firmly at the forefront of the drive for success and to do that he has put in place a series of initiatives and in-house training programmes to deliver excellence in customer service.

He believes the firm’s greatest strengths lie in its people and specialist practices - encompassing both business and personal teams – with great depth of knowledge from its award-winning lawyers.

In addition, its lawyers are regularly singled out for special praise within the industry and have become recognised commentators on legal issues in the media – B P Collins has also been recognised as the sixth most influential law firm on Twitter.

Top client names who turn to B P Collins for advice include Sacla UK, Biffa and Wrogel Management and recently, the corporate team was named “best in England and Wales across eight regions”.

In the most recent annual The Legal 500 league table of top law firms, the firm secured the title of “regional heavyweight” for the second year in a row, achieving top tier status in six practice areas.

partnered with the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce to hold a 'roundtable' event for Japanese businesses looking to expand or invest for the first time in Buckinghamshire, Berkshire or Oxfordshire.

It is a sponsor of the Pride of Bucks Awards and last month B P Collins was once again a gold sponsor – and entered its own teams – for the GX Fun Run; while last year it launched a charitable stewardship with Buckinghamshire’s Community Foundation Heart of Bucks (HoB) to help more charities across the county.

B P Collins is also a proud founding sponsor of the Bucks Sporting Lunch Club, helping to raise thousands of pounds to support young up-and-coming athletes from Buckinghamshire. The latest event on May 20 at Dorney Lake, saw three young recipients each awarded a £750 grant by guest of honour, Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics gold medallist Amy Williams MBE.

The firm’s anniversary celebrations peak next month with a special event at Hedsor House in Buckinghamshire on July 7, complete with music and entertainment from the past five decades – proving B P Collins really is Made to Last.
