INDUSTRIAL & LOGISTICS PROPERTY CONSULTANCY
Sponsored by
Winner: JLL
Businesses don’t always operate from offices and their products may well need industrial, storage, or distribution facilities.
This was the first category of the evening in which objective information on deal volumes and values within the Thames Valley region assisted the Awards Panel judges in their decision-making. The key data was provided by the extensive industry-leading resources of EGi, part of the Estates Gazette group.
Three established consultancy firms were competing for the title:
• JLL • Cushman & Wakefield • Lambert Smith Hampton
A global ‘powerhouse’, JLL has more than 58,000 people in more than 1,000 locations in 80 countries serving the local, regional and global real estate needs of clients. JLL (formerly Jones Lang LaSalle) provides a full range of property services to the Thames Valley, through its “unique resources combination of an international organisation teamed with intimate local knowledge“.
Cushman & Wakefield is another commercial real estate services ‘powerhouse’, employing more than 40,000 professionals worldwide. In the Thames Valley, the Stockley Park office has a dedicated team advising on industrial and logistics/warehouse advice to landlords, developers and occupiers.
Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) is the leading industrial and logistics property adviser in the UK and Ireland, letting, selling or acquiring around 20 million sq ft of industrial and distribution space every year. Its national network of offices across the UK means it can provide detailed, on-the-ground advice for every major town and city.
THE BUSINESS MAGAZINE – THAMES VALLEY – JUNE 2016
Emily Temple, associate at Bracknell-based town and environmental planning specialists Pegasus Group, was invited to the stage to announce the winner. Would it be the current title-holder Cushman & Wakefield, the world’s largest privately held commercial real estate services firm?
The answer was “No“. There was a new name on Emily Temple’s lips as she put the JLL table into celebratory mode.
Afterwards, Melinda Cross, lead industrial agency director of JLL’s team for London and Thames Valley, commented: “This win is really pleasing because I have got a brilliant close-knit team that works extremely hard out here in our Thames Valley office. Although we are part of a much larger organisation, we very much work as a local agent, taking instructions direct from some great clients.”
With online technology and e-commerce providing far more distribution and warehousing requirements, Cross agreed that the scope of her team’s Thames Valley work has become more varied.
“We now handle anything from a 150,000 sq ft logistics instruction right down to 1,000 sq ft workshops, but we have a large enough team to deal with that work variety.”
Although shortage of stock has increased client demand, she put the continued success of her eight-strong team down to new development work coming through, strong client relationships underpinned by very good service, repeat business and client referrals, plus sheer hard work.
Having a Thames Valley office located at Stockley Park off the M4 near Heathrow was a clear communications and travel advantage, she added. “If a client wants a meeting or viewing tomorrow, we can do that.”
