Circus is flying high

after award win CircusMASH, the Kings Heath-based circus organisation, was crowned winner of the second Intuit QuickBooks Small Business Big Success award at a gala dinner held at Villa Park. The company received a prize package

worth £20,000 to celebrate its achievements to date and to help take the business to the next level. The competition is designed to identify the

stories of small business success in the West Midlands and hundreds of local firms entered from across the region, with CircusMASH impressing the judging panel – which included ABCC president Saqib Bhatti - with their clear enthusiasm for circus arts in education and performance and a genuine desire to make a big impact in the community.

‘Having our achievements formally recognised in this way gives purpose to our work’

Zaq Andel, co-founder at CircusMASH, who collected the award, said: “There were so many inspiring small businesses at the event, which makes winning this award all the more humbling. Having our achievements formally recognised in this way gives purpose to our work, as shifting people’s perception about circus arts can be something of an upward struggle. We’re delighted that our passion for our business came through and are feeling on top of the world!” He said they would be using the prize

package to support the development of a new circus school and investing in new equipment to create a state-of-the-art facility. Mike Williams, finance director at Intuit,

said: “ CircusMASH’s story really stood out with their passion and commitment for the business and the focus they have on impacting the local community.”
