The cost to business: domestic abuse

In these tough economic times, businesses need to protect resources, retain employees and get the best out of their people resource. But did you know domestic abuse could be costing your business without you even realising it?

• Women make up 47% of the UK workforce. 1 in 4 women in the UK will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime

• Domestic abuse costs the UK £2.7 billion each year. The direct cost to employers is £1.3 billion per year

• 20% of women and 6% of men take sickness absence as a result of domestic violence injuries or trauma

• In 2011, one third of domestic homicides happened on workplace grounds

• Victims of violence are least likely to tell their employer what is happening because they think their job will be in jeopardy

By taking effective action, you can cut the costs to your business, retain skilled employees and get the best out of your people.
