Business News Major contract win for LBT
Birmingham headquartered inspection and certification specialist Lloyds British Testing (LBT) has been awarded a major three year inspection and certification contract by BAE Systems. The contract, which will be managed by Lloyds’ rapidly expanding defence division, will cover more than 21,000 pieces of lifting equipment, pressure vessels, cranes, elevators and forklift trucks used at the Portsmouth Naval Base. Lloyds will also carry out
statutory inspections of BAE’s lifting equipment at the organisation’s Bahrain site in the Middle East. Lloyds British managing director
Ryan White said: “We are absolutely delighted at being awarded such a prestigious contract with BAE Systems, and we look forward to working closely with them, ensuring compliance of their equipment within both the Portsmouth Naval Base and their facilities in Bahrain. “Our contract will cover equipment on over eight square miles of real estate and in more than 500 buildings. We will be working closely with the MOD’s

compliance department and with the BAE Systems teams which have been set up to manage all of the equipment we will be inspecting under the relevant legislation. “Our aim is to build on the
strong working relationships between all the departments involved on site here in the UK and in the Middle East, and to support BAE Systems’ provision of outstanding technology-led defence, aerospace and security systems to the UK government.” LBT is one of the market leaders
in lifting engineering services. For over 200 years the company has specialised in: materials testing services, design, operator training, equipment hire, sales and other associated areas. LBT operates from a network of
12 locations providing services to a wide range of clients above and underground, onshore and offshore. This includes, but is not limited to defence, marine, steel, power, construction, mechanical engineering, petrochemical, coal, rail and nuclear.
