Cathedral library through the ages

Lichfield Cathedral is re-launching the popular tours of its historic library, starting this month. The Cathedral Library is tucked away

on the upper floor of the Chapter House, and houses a unique and special collection of historic treasures. The ‘From Manuscript to the Printed

‘An exclusive opportunity to see some of the cathedral’s earliest manuscripts’

Word’ tours will offer visitors an exclusive opportunity to see some of the cathedral’s earliest manuscripts and a selection of their earliest printed books. These include a 15th Century illuminated copy of Geoffrey Chaucer’s The

Canterbury Tales, a dangerous and forbidden Wycliffe Bible, and a 16th Century printed Book of Hours. The Cathedral Library Tours have proved to be hugely popular in previous

years, so this year the number of tours available has been doubled and will include special Christmas Evening Tours in December. The Christmas Library Tours will see the library beautifully decorated for the

season, and offer the chance to take the tour by candlelight. Clare Townsend, cathedral libraries’ manager, said: “We’re really looking

forward to this year’s tour, particularly with the addition of the Christmas tours. It’s a great privilege for us to be able to share our wonderful collection, and we hope to see many new faces when we re-open our doors in May.”

Hunt for board is child’s play

Drayton Manor Park in Staffordshire is searching for junior versions of Lord Alan Sugar and Richard Branson to join its board of directors. The theme park has launched a hunt to find

eight new child directors for its board, and want them to get involved in helping to shape the future of the park. Each board member will not only receive a

season pass allowing them to visit the attraction as often as they like during 2016 and take advantage of discounts and vouchers, but they’ll also be involved with making important decisions on how to make their theme park experience extra special. Suitable candidates need to be aged between

five and eight and will also need to be good communicators - little chatterboxes should definitely apply, headstrong, and confident in their decision making abilities. To apply, children and their parents are being

asked to create a 60 second video explaining their favourite thing about coming to Drayton Manor, what three things they would have on their wish list to make a day extra special and how their friends and family would describe them. Potential candidates have until 23.59am on Sunday 15 May to apply and candidates need to
