Chamber members’ ‘ikon-ic’ briefing
Businesses and educational establishments attended a Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce breakfast to hear a briefing from Claudia Harris, chief executive of the Careers and Enterprise Company. The company was set up by education
secretary Nicky Morgan with the aim of transforming the provision of careers education and advice for young people as well as inspiring them about the work opportunities. The briefing, hosted by Ikon Gallery in
Brindleyplace, Birmingham, addressed the issue of joining up the worlds of education and work, to help young people leave school with the skills, knowledge and attitude they need to succeed. The discussion highlighted the wide variety of
initiatives and organisations working independently to this end. Delegates resolved to explore ways, such as that offered by the Careers and Enterprise Company, of co- ordinating these various groups and activities to maximise impact.
