Audience members aren't the only ones contributing to the local economy.

“Jason Aldean is a top 5 recording artist who puts on a big show,” explained Ireland. “When he came to town he brought 11 semi trucks and 100 people with him. They bought $5,000 worth of groceries and spent money on hotel rooms and fuel and that was just for the tour crew.”

In addition to the economic benefits of the building

itself and the positive spinoff from its visitors, the city has experienced a great deal of growth as a direct result of the Canalta Centre.

“We have had $150 million in private investment in the area surrounding the Canalta Centre,” said Clugston. “These construction projects were all announced after The Centre moved forward and show the importance of the building on the local economy.”

The community has supported the Canalta Centre in its initial months of business including the community open house held this summer. The Medicine Hat Tigers’ home opener game brought in 5,900 fans, 100 shy of a 6,000 person sellout.

During the weeks and months ahead the staff is working hard to bring quality entertainment to the community.

“There are a lot of exciting things coming that we can't give away just yet but stay tuned,” said Jelinski. ■
