The bass lines are bumping and business is jumping for three Hatters who are carving out a niche in the Medicine Hat music scene.
For the past three years the men behind Infinite Sounds — Dylan Heinrichs, 24, Sean Widmer, 30, and James Stark, 27, — have been producing shows dubbed Intimate with Infinite every Thursday at the Corona bringing underground electronic dance music to the masses. The success of those shows earned them a fair bit of cred and now they're throwing parties at the Corona one or two Saturdays a month and have slots in the lounge at Earl's and at Twist downtown.
Getting the Saturday slots a little more than a year ago was big, said Heinrichs.
"Saturday is what we really focus on for the bookings," he said. "That’s where we can bring something a bit more creative."
After all, Saturday is where the big boys — and girls — play.
In recent months Mat the Alien and Whipped Cream have drawn close to 200 people to the Corona.
"Everybody was really into it," Heinrichs said, of the Whipped Cream show. "It was a girl DJ so that’s always different, you don’t always see female performers much in this industry as you would on the male side."
Headline artists from the United States, Australia and Europe who have performed at festivals all over the world have performed on Saturday nights at the Corona. The style of music from weekend to weekend is wide- ranging, said Heinrichs, covering everything from hip hop sounds, to funk to house music and more. That diversity is key for Infinite Sounds.
"We really try to pride ourself in creating something that’s unique. We don’t always book the same acts, we try to keep it fresh."
On any given Saturday Infinite Sounds is at the Corona you could see anywhere from 150- 200 people on the dance floor. Thursdays are

a little more low key, said Heinrichs. He describes it as a more "homey" vibe with good friends and people that know each other relaxing.
Heinrichs was a member of a small group that had a bit of a scene going years ago but eventually disbanded. Having attended many festivals and getting a handle on what he wanted to bring to Medicine Hat, Heinrichs and Widmer began working under the Infinite Sounds banner. Through an ex-girlfriend Heinrichs met Stark, who had been coming to shows and making his own music. He invested about a year ago. The three now split the bills and the work equally.
"We’ve spent like 25 grand altogether when it comes to the equipment and stuff — turntables, speakers, mixers and all that stuff," Heinrichs said.
That investment — and the faith management at the Corona has in Heinrichs, Widmer and Stark — means an Infinite Sounds show is unlike anything else you'll experience in Medicine Hat.
"We’ll build a stage up, we’ll video map a few surfaces in the room, we’ll project images on to them, we’ll put burlap and material leading into the dance floor," Heinrichs explains. "We try to create an environment where if you walk into the Corona on a Friday night and they’re playing top 40 and then when you walk into the Corona on a Saturday when we have control it’s like you’re walking into a different nightclub almost."
The speakers are an important part of the show and Heinrichs says they've purchased speakers specifically made for bass and electronic music. In his words, "they’ve got a lot of thump to them, a lot of drive."
Put the drive of the speakers and the drive of Heinrichs, Widmer and Stark together and it's a winning formula.
So what does the future hold for Infinite Sounds? A local festival is one idea that's been thrown around and the basic plan is to keep growing, getting better at what they do, and throwing bigger and better parties every year.
The possibilities are, well, infinite.
"I don’t know exactly where the future takes us," Heinrichs said. "In the end we just want to keep doing what we’re doing. Be positive, help impact people’s lives and have people come out and dance and have a really good time."
